El pasado día 8 de abril el Profesor e Investigador Titular de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México D. Joaquín Barroso Flores visitó el Centro Universitario de la Defensa de San Javier. El Profesor Barroso tiene una consolidad carrera en el ámbito de la Química Computacional con más de 50 publicaciones en las principales revistas internacionales de la especialidad. Estas contribuciones son un ejemplo de la potencia de los métodos teóricos, que el profesor Barroso aplica para resolver las propiedades fisicoquímicas de sistemas complejos como fotosistemas y materiales de interés industrial y militar. El profesor Barroso es además uno de los científicos de referencia en la comunidad hispanohablante gracias a sus actividades divulgativas, lo que le ha llevado a ser invitado a las principales reuniones del campo, como por ejemplo la serie de conferencias WATOC (World Association of Theoretical and Computational Chemists).
Durante la visita el profesor Barroso pudo impartir un seminario titulado “La extensión de la Teoría de Funcionales de la Densidad más allá de la Academia”, en la que estuvieron presentes tanto parte del claustro de profesores como del equipo de dirección. En su conferencia, el profesor Barroso ilustró con ejemplos prácticos la aplicación de estos métodos a problemas relacionados con materiales y otros ámbitos industriales, incluyendo . La visita terminó con un recorrido por los laboratorios docentes y de investigación de los que el centro dispone dentro de la Academia General del Aire
